Vacation & Leave Entitlements

Federal employees are entitled to a minimum of 2 weeks vacation after one year of service, rising to 3 weeks after 5 years under the Canada Labour Code. Provincial minimums vary — ZenSkayl applies the correct entitlement automatically based on the employee's province and service length.

Paid Sick Leave

Federal employees are entitled to 10 days of paid sick leave per year under the Canada Labour Code. Provincial requirements vary — Ontario provides 3 days of paid infectious disease emergency leave, while BC provides up to 5 days of paid sick leave. ZenSkayl tracks statutory sick leave per province.

Right to Disconnect (Ontario & Federal)

Ontario employers with 25 or more employees are required to have a written right-to-disconnect policy. Federal employers are subject to similar requirements under amendments to the Canada Labour Code. ZenSkayl helps you document, communicate, and manage these policies.

Anti-Replacement Worker Legislation (Bill C-58, 2024)

Federal Bill C-58, which came into force in 2024, prohibits the use of replacement workers during federally regulated labour disputes. For HR teams managing federally regulated workforces, ZenSkayl's scheduling and workforce records provide the documentation needed during any labour relations processes.

Privacy: PIPEDA & Quebec Law 25

Federally, PIPEDA governs how employee personal data must be handled. Quebec's Law 25 (fully in force since September 2023) imposes stricter requirements — including mandatory privacy impact assessments and data minimisation. ZenSkayl's data architecture is built to meet both standards.

Parental & Family Leave

Canada offers some of the most generous parental leave entitlements in the world — up to 18 months of leave for new parents under EI (Employment Insurance). ZenSkayl tracks parental leave start and return dates, and handles the various provincial extensions and supplemental employer top-up arrangements.
